HanseMerkur's success story is based on both its innovative strength and its more than years of experience. HanseMerkur's roots lie in health insurance. One of HanseMerkur's predecessor companies was founded as early as 1875 – Hanseatische Krankenversicherung by 1875 Merkur VVaG. This makes HanseMerkur the second oldest private health insurer in Germany. Long before 1977, the year HanseMerkur Travel Insurance was founded as an independent company, the company was already active in the sale of tourism products.
