When does travel cancellation insurance make sense?

We recommend travel cancellation insurance, especially for longer holidays, cost-intensive trips and if you are going on holiday with a larger group of people. Especially on a family, class or group trip, the risk is high that the trip has to be cancelled due to fewer people travelling with you. Our cancellation insurance provides reimbursement and thus protects the entire family or group budget.

In the event of pregnancy, we also recommend additional cover with travel cancellation insurance at favourable premiums. If you find out about the pregnancy after booking the trip, cancellation, curtailment and rebooking are insured.

Travel cancellation insurance: Comparison of our services

We offer our insurance cover with trip cancellation for holiday trips and for club and class trips for young people under 30. With the travel cancellation insurance for holidays you insure the cancellation costs for worldwide travel abroad without any deductible. If you travel with your family or within a group, you can benefit from discounted rates.

In addition to the travel cancellation insurance that is included, you benefit from an additional travel curtailment insurance. If you have to cancel your trip within the first half of the trip (max. within the first 8 days) for unforeseeable reasons, we will pay the full price of the trip. The maximum insurable travel price is € 10,000 per person/family. If you are no longer able to use travel services in the second half of the trip due to travel curtailment, we will reimburse these from the 9th day.

Combination of travel cancellation insurance and international health insurance

Would you like to insure your trip not only against travel cancellation and curtailment, but are you also looking for comprehensive insurance cover during the trip? In this case, we recommend our combined Cancellation and travel protection which you can select depending on the type of trip: for holidays, for club and class trips or for car, train and bus trips. The cover extends over a maximum travel duration of 31 days and is valid in Europe or worldwide, depending on the plan (for car, rail and bus travel only within Europe).

What benefits does the integrated travel protection include? In addition to important international health insurance, you benefit from travel liability insurance, luggage insurance and travel accident insurance. The latter covers high treatment costs in the event of disability as a result of a possible accident while travelling. Our return journey, delay and transfer cover also protects you against travel irregularities, e.g. if your flight is delayed by more than 2 hours. Within the integrated travel curtailment insurance, we cover 100% of the trip price if you have to interrupt your holiday within the first half (max. within the first 8 days) due to an unforeseeable event. In case of loss of payment means, your travel documents or criminal prosecution, you can reach our 24-hour emergency call service around the clock.

Travel cancellation insurance: Comparison of annual protection offers

If you travel several times a year and not longer than 62 days per trip, we recommend our Annual Cancellation Insurance with Travel Protection. This means that you not only cover as many trips as you like against cancellation for a complete year, but you also don't have to worry about comprehensive health and accident cover on your trips. You can read about all the benefits included in our comparison table.

Practical advice

The special thing about these travel insurance policies is not only their comprehensive travel and cancellation protection, they also always cover a larger group of risk persons, e.g. if you are travelling with your family, your partner or within a group. If you have to cancel or interrupt your trip due to someone falling ill, for example, all fellow travellers are always insured with each other. Example: You are accompanying a class trip and have to cancel the booked trip – e.g. due to pregnancy – shortly before departure? In this case, we will pay the cancellation costs for all insured persons. This is a great advantage over credit card insurance providers, for example, who often only cover the credit card holder in the event of cancellation.

For which cancellation reasons am I insured?

Our cancellation insurance covers numerous reasons for cancellation. If you opt for the premium plan among our offers, you benefit from additionally insured events and even more comprehensive protection. You are insured for these cancellation reasons:

  • Financial loss (over € 5,000) due to property crime/accident (Premium)
  • Unexpected worsening of an existing condition (Premium)
  • Illness or death of dog, cat, horse (Premium)
  • Unexpected serious illness
  • Death, severe injury due to an accident
  • Pregnancy after booking a trip
  • Fracture of prostheses, loosening of implanted joints
  • Failure to pass the training examination or failure to transfer at school
  • Job loss with subsequent unemployment
  • Significant damage to property
  • Unexpected court summons
  • Action for divorce, dissolution of registered partnership
  • Change of job, short-time work
  • Re-employment after unemployment
